“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too”. Philippians 2:1-4
There are many different social events held throughout the year and you are guaranteed to find something to appeal to you… whether you want to enjoy a quiet meal out, party on a boat as you travel up the Thames, a day trip to France or a competitive team game of Ten Pin Bowling, we know you will have a great evening with us… and you can bring friends along to get to know people from City Gates in a non-threatening non-Church environment.
Our events are aimed at anyone over 23, whether you are already an established member of the church, have just joined or maybe you haven’t even attended City Gates. Our aim is to bring people together in fellowship for God’s glory, in a fun and joyful way!
There is usually a cost involved – this varies dependent on the activity. You will need to pre-book to secure your place to the event, as spaces are often limited.
Update on our last event:
Relaxed after a great night out, people who attended City Lights enjoy mixing at dinner
On Friday 25th September, City Lights had a great night out! They enjoyed having exclusive use of the private screening room at Covent Garden Hotel. where they could watch the film “Not Easily Broken”. It was a fantastic choice of film (rated 5 stars by City Lights team members!!), very thought provoking, funny and the kind of film most people could relate to as they look at their own family and relationship situations.
Following the film, City Lights went to Zizi’s Italian Restaurant where the atmosphere could be described as friendly, relaxed and intimate. Everyone who was there thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Below Helen Mullis explains in her own words what she enjoyed about the evening:
“I’m new to City Gates, having just moved back to Ilford after 4 years at university in Chester and so far I’ve loved it with loads of friendly, welcoming people. Sometimes though, when you’re new to a community, that’s what it can feel like…LOADS of people! I was really looking for an opportunity to put some names and stories to the smiley faces!
I’m a teacher and had a really stressful day at school on Friday, so I nearly didn’t go, as I had decided to just go to the first bit and have an early night. When my friends an I got there though, it was so well organised and welcoming that I soon started to enjoy myself and forget my nightmare Year 11s! Every small detail was attended to, even down to chocolate treats!
I ended up staying all night and absolutely loved it! The film was great – relevant and entertaining but thought provoking. I’ve already bought it to show my Year 10’s when we learn about Christian marriage! The restaurant was great and really good value for money. It was so lovely to spend time with people in a relaxed atmosphere, especially as we all had the film to spark our conversations.
I will feel more confident at Church on Sunday having got to know people in a different setting. I’m really looking forward to the next event!I’d recommend the next City Lights event to everyone, whether you’ve been at City Gates for 2 weeks or 20 years, because there’s so much encouragement to be had from just hanging out together.“
Don’t Miss our next Event on: Sunday 7th March 2010… Sunday Roast at Ilford’s new “IF” Restaurant!
