Our Story

Our Story so far…

City Gates has always been a people who are not content with seeing a Church building full, we have always sought to enlarge our tent so more chairs may be bought and more people may be brought into the Kingdom of God.

A Church which started out as a tin shack in the 1930’s as a small gathering of people, has grown since then to become a body of people passionate about God and passionate about their local community. A body of people who outgrew their current Church building and, under the leadership and direction of Rev Stephen Derbyshire, sought the Lord for direction on how to accommodate the vision and the heart of City Gates to see Ilford reached with the Gospel.

As a result, in 2009, planning permission was granted for a new 1,000 seat, fully functional, purpose built Worship Centre for Clements Road in place of the old City Gates Church building.

The next two years will see the massive building project being undertaken right in the heart of Ilford Town Centre, in the meantime we will be meeting in Ilford’s Cineworld for our services.
